Torque and Power
If you’re up for instant power and torque, electric scooters can do the job easily. Electric scooters are plug-in electric vehicles with two wheels powered by electricity. The electricity is stored on a board in a rechargeable battery, which can drive one or more electric motors. Given this, instant torque and power will be easily given by electric scooters compared to gas motorcycles which take longer to spool up peak power and torque, since it requires the engine to reach certain RPMs. While electric scooters’ motor reach peak power and torque instantly from 0 RPM easily and can maintain more consistent power and torque through the entire RMP range.
Both gas motorcycles and electric scooters need tender loving care from time to time, but with electric scooters it’s much easier and worry free to maintain. Unlike gas motorcycles there are millions of moving parts such as filters, spark plugs, timing belts you name it. For electric scooters fewer moving parts are needed; no clutch to replace, no oil to change, no valves to adjust no air filter to replace. You will probably need fresh tires now and then, brake pads, and change other consumables. Periodic maintenance for electric scooters will only take up in an hour too. For the batteries, they will last you up to 4-5 years given proper care. Hence, all you have to do majority of the time is UnPlug and Play.
Saving Money Will Be Easy
Since, electric scooters use electric energy to power its motors you will never be stopping at a gas station to get gas. For example, a trip from Quezon City to Mall of Asia in Pasay will be around 20 km. Using an average gas motorcycle will be around 20km and will cost around Php 30 pesos for a roundtrip. But with an electric scooter, specifically a Mantis Plus with the same roundtrip route, it will only cost you a power consumption from your Meralco bill for only Php 8 pesos. Lastly, cost of maintenance for electric scooters will be always relatively consistent unless you consider to upgrade to a much powerful ride.
There are a lot of motorcycles which will equate to shortage of motorcycle parking. But with electric scooters one option would be is to carry it inside your office and store it under your desk. Fortunately, there are a lot of establishments that are EKS friendly, meaning you can park securely and safely near the establishment while you sip your coffee or do your groceries.
Sweat Free and Ease of Use
In operating an electric scooter, you don’t have to figure out what gear you are in and how to clutch properly. You don’t also have to worry burning yourself on a hot exhaust header. They are more comfortable for riding in traffic and other urban scenarios, you can enjoy the ride instead of clutching and shifting every three seconds. They are lighter which gives you better control and precision when maneuvering in tight or busy spaces. To add, you can also lift and use it on pedestrian walkways with caution to help you get a higher vantage point to see the traffic ahead. Plus, it can also lessen carbon footprint compared to any gas motorcycles.
Electric scooters may be a steep purchase firsthand, but arguably in the long run it will save you probably up to thrice as much money than gas motorcycles and offer more convenience than cons. Hence, consider it as a reliable, unique and fun experience with a high return of investment. Like any other type of alternative transportation, it’s not yet perfect but it is on its way. For now, invest in the future and choose the best electric scooter you can afford.
